Private visit to Leeds Castle with entry to Canterbury Cathedral. See the white cliffs of Dover including Dover Castle plus see Naval College in Greenwich. If that isn't enough, enjoy a Thames boat ride from Greenwich to Embankment.
Private Visit to Leeds Castle
Described as 'the loveliest castle in the world' by Lord Conway, Leeds Castle sits in 500 acres of landscaped parkland across two idyllic islands, deep in the heart of the magnificent Kent countryside. Early arrival ensures an almost private visit of Leeds Castle, where Henry VIII retreated to escape the plague raging in London during his reign.
Visit Canterbury Cathedral
Centre of English Christianity and home to a succession of 104 Archbishops since Augustine, Canterbury is a magnificent medieval city that’s a must for any history buff. Discover the scene of Archbishop Thomas Becket’s gruesome murder at Canterbury Cathedral in 1170. Learn the intriguing history behind this captivating masterpiece of medieval architecture. Marvel at the cathedral’s spectacular stained glass windows, many of which have survived from the late 12th and early 13th centuries.
The White Cliffs of Dover
Reaching a height of 350 ft or 110m, the White Cliffs of Dover are the striking gateway to England. They stretch for eight miles (13km) and have stood loyally throughout invasions and two world wars!
The Battle of Britain Memorial
In Capel-le-Ferne, the Battle of Britain Memorial is dedicated to ‘The Few’ who defended the UK from Nazi Germany’s air force, the Luftwaffe. Opened by the Queen Mother in 1993, the statue is of a seated airman wearing an Irvin jacket to hide his trade, nationality and rank. On your visit to the memorial, you’ll also get the chance to see the Christopher Foxley-Norris Memorial Wall which contains the names of all the crew in alphabetical order, again without highlighting their rank or decoration. What’s more, The Wing offers an interactive experience with audio-visual effects, videos and a first floor ‘cockpit’ area which features a balcony offering spectacular views of the Channel.
