Between May and October, Sydney’s coastline becomes a playground for Humpback whales, with spectacular breaches, tail slapping, and even the occasional close-up wink from these curious creatures.
As you cruise along Sydney’s stunning coastline, you may also spot Southern Right whales, Orcas, Minke whales, playful dolphins, seals, fairy penguins and albatross. The cruise lasts approximately 2.5 hours and with over 20,000 Humpback whales making the 3,500km journey each year, you’re bound to witness some incredible action.
Sydney’s whale-watching season is one of the longest in Australia, running for over five months. Peak sightings occur between June and July during the Northern migration and September - October during the Southern migration. August often offers spectacular displays, with young males showing off their impressive breaches.
Captain Cook Cruises operates family-friendly catamarans with indoor and outdoor seating over multiple levels, ensuring everyone gets a great view. - There are strict guidelines on how close vessels of all kinds, from kayaks to cruise boats, can approach whales. This however does not stop whales from taking matters into their own hands for a closer look at us!
