Westminster Abbey, once known as the Collegiate Church of Saint Peter at Westminster, graces London as an iconic Gothic structure. Nestled on Parliament Square, it neighbours the Houses of Parliament and Big Ben. Steeped in tradition, it serves as a hallowed site for coronations and the final resting place of 17 UK monarchs and 8 former prime ministers. This royal sanctuary welcomes daily worshippers and boasts over a millennium of history as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Coronation Chair: Crafted for King Edward I in 1296, this chair has witnessed the crowning of monarchs since 1308, including Queen Victoria and Queen Elizabeth II. It remains the UK's oldest piece of functional furniture.
Poets’ Corner: Named for its multitude of interred poets and writers, including Geoffrey Chaucer, Charles Dickens, Rudyard Kipling, and Thomas Hardy. Memorials, stones, and busts honor luminaries like Shakespeare and beloved Scottish poet Robert Burns.
Royal Connections: Since 1066, Westminster Abbey has been the site of royal coronations and the resting place of 17 monarchs. It also witnessed the 2011 nuptials of William and Kate.
